The healthcare system is complex and challenging to the degree that population diversity and continuous evolution require new strategies to address primary care and other needs. As a result, it is important for DNP-prepared nurses to achieve excellence in education and in supporting these demands effectively (Honig, Reinisch, & Smolowitz, 2010). Nurses at an advanced practice level must be adequately prepared to address the challenges of the healthcare system and to be mindful of the difficulties that they face in advancing primary care objectives, clinical competencies, diagnostic approaches, and other needs, thereby demonstrating one of the key domains of DNP education (Honig et.al, 2010). Another domain is integral in supporting patient-centered communication and other tools to improve quality of care, while a third domain addresses the importance of share decision-making and culturally appropriate care to achieve improved care and ethically responsible choices (Honig et.al, 2010).

From these perspectives, nurses at this level must be prepared to address gaps in knowledge and how to improve healthcare practice by bridging these gaps and improving quality of care effectively (Redman, Pressler, Furspan, & Potempa, 2015). There must be a greater emphasis on the identification of case studies to support advanced practice nursing and doctoral-level education to improve the conditions under which nurses are able to improve primary care and treatment for all patients (Reinisch). In addition, doctoral-level nurses must be supplied with expert knowledge and a framework that will influence decision-making and the need for strategies that will improve outcomes for patients (Zaccagnini & White, 2013). There must also be a greater emphasis on the development of new factors to improve healthcare practice and to enable nurses to practice at a high level and to utilize the skillset for which they receive advanced training in order to improve the lives of their patients across all populations and cultures.
