My thesis will be about interest group representation and more specifically how Covid-19 has affected lobbying. After discussing the topic with the instructor we narrowed the research question to “how has Covid – 19 affected NGO lobbying activity across Europe?” (but the word selection can change if you think so, however, that is the main topic I want to research). I have thought two hypotheses: first, with regards to the use of technology as a means of lobbying (due to covid -19 the communication was conducted mainly through the internet) – the instructor suggested that we could research whether digital lobbying did increased or decreased (this is mentioned in this article: secondly, another hypothesis that I thought is whether the organizations with interests affected by the pandemic are more influential to political venues? (reference – the article that I attach you: “Changes in interest group access in times of crisis: no pain, no (lobby) gain”). You can decline these hypotheses if you think that they are not relevant to the topic and I certainly want you to add more in order to cover the topic under research. Regarding the method, I do not want interviews. I want qualitative and as the instructor said I can take information from the records of meetings with interest groups etc. (if you find available) or it can be a case study. The proposal has to include: title – abstract – introduction – theory – research design section (case selection, method, operationalization) – timeline – reference list All of them (including the reference list must be 3500-4000 words) I attach you: 1. the syllabus of the thesis seminar 2. the article “Changes in interest group access in times of crisis: no pain, no (lobby) gain” 3. an assignment with my first thoughts regarding the topic and the hypotheses to the instructor 4. a paper on the conditions under which interest groups are influential from which you can find relevant references and literature
