The Affordable Care Act and Its Impact on the Aging, Coursework Example

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) has posed a number of different opportunities to improve quality of care and affect patient outcomes in a potentially favorable manner. Health promotion and preventive care are primary objectives in this regard and demonstrate the importance of enabling patients to receive care and treatment in the desired manner and without further complications. Unfortunately, many patients have caught in the crossfire of cuts to services that include skilled nursing, hospice, and home health, thereby placing some of the most vulnerable patients in jeopardy (Gummadi, 2014). It is the responsibility of DNPs to take a step forward and to recognize the value of promoting advancing practice and leadership opportunities at the state level in order to have a greater impact on patient care quality and service delivery (Mullin, 2016). Evidence-based practice solutions must be a key component of this process and influence new idea generation to support the key objectives of patient care and treatment (Stevens, 2013).

It is imperative that advanced practice nurses advocate for their patients and strive to improve their health, given the resources that they have and the constraints that they face. Primary care is one area of consideration that requires further analysis in order to accomplish the intended objectives and to recognize the importance of primary care and preventive measures in order to fulfill the needs of patients across many areas. The Affordable Care Act serves as a reminder of the importance of expanding knowledge in primary care and supporting a dynamic that will have a positive impact on patient health and wellbeing across many age groups (Lathrop & Hodnicki, 2014). These factors will contribute to the promotion of advanced practice solutions for nurses that will have positive and lasting benefits for patients through education, testing, screenings, and other tools designed to support a greater understanding of health-related objectives.
