Alcoholism is becoming more and more prevalent in today’s society due to individuals using alcohol as a way to cope with daily stress and emotional trauma. The biological approach of alcoholism shows that children of alcoholics have several different biological markers in serotonin transporter, dopamine D2, and GABA receptor genes. These differences in these biological markers mean that children of alcoholics are at greater risk in developing behavioral problems due to having a higher chance in developing impulse control issues that can lead to alcoholism or the use of other drugs (Park & Schepp, 2015, p. 1228). Another biological factor that plays a role in alcoholism is that disrupted white matter microstructure in the brain could increase the chance of individuals developing a dependence on alcohol as a coping mechanism (Park & Schepp, 2015, p. 1228). Biologically speaking there are several genes that play a factor in alcoholism and other addictive behaviors due to release of dopamine when participating in these activities. Furthermore, Biology and environment both play major factors in children developing addictive behaviors due to the unstable environment like having alcoholic parents that create a bad environment, which can lead to children developing things like depression, suicidal tendencies or, substance abuse (Park & Schepp, 2015, p. 1222). There are many factors that can lead to addictive behavior like alcoholism that can lead individuals into developing harmful coping mechanisms to deal with bad aspects of life.

Now, bullies’ arms can reach as far as they want by using the internet. The biological approach may reveal that bullying is potentially caused by distal sources such as genetic and environmental (DeYoung, 2010). According to Ball et al. (2008), genetics may be a factor as to why kids exhibit bullying and aggressive behaviors.
Ball et al. (2008) found that children’s tendency to be both a victim and a bully was influenced almost entirely by genetic factors. Children whose parents exhibit aggressive behaviors tend to also exhibit aggressive behaviors. The biological approach would indicate that those who engage in bullying may score low in Agreeableness. Those who score low in Agreeableness have issues with suppressing aggressive impulses and other socially disruptive emotions (DeYoung, 2010). Genetic factors that appear to have more influence than other factors that negatively impact bullying are impulsivity and sensation seeking.

There are not many biological factors that appear that negatively impact bullying, however, there certainly are more genetic factors that do. Bullying was strongly influenced by genetic factor and, to a much lesser extent, by nonshared environmental factors (Ball et al., 2008). Characteristics that are genetically observed in bullies include biases in social cognitions, low emotionality, and poor emotional regulation.
