Minimum of 1200 words, this autobiography will tell the story of something meaningful that has happened in your life (e.g., your experiences with food, body image, being an athlete, label of immigrant/minority and negative perceptions in the U.S. – the list goes on and on).
You will write about this experience using the lens of sociology and social psychology. In other words, this is not just a personal story. It is a story that allows the reader to see how private issues and or experiences (be it sad or happy ones) are linked to public issues (e.g., culture, social structure, and or systems of inequality).
This past or present personal experience will enable you to illustrate and examine at least 8 Key Terms/Concepts from the chapters listed inyour textbook.
In addition, I expect you to organize your paper EXPLICITLY around:
Application of the Symbolic interactionist perspective somewhere in your paper where you deem necessary so the reader to better understand the nature of the point(s) you are making. Be sure to define this perspective including the page number of where it can be found in the textbook.
You should choose a subject that holds a great deal of meaning for you. You are likely to write a stronger paper, and learn more about yourself, if you write about something that has affected you in a profound way. I will be the only one to read it.
I expect you to write a coherent paper that relates these key terms/concepts to one another and demonstrates not only your understanding of what these concepts mean in general, but how they relate specifically to your life
