Purpose: the goal of your proposal is to request approval for a topic that merits scholarly research and to explain why the issue is significant, why it merits research, and what you hope to find out. However, the topic of your research paper will be limited to an issue within the umbrella of reducing gender or racial inequality in the US.

Examples of issues within the topic of reducing gender or racial inequality in the US:

• The lack of women in STEM fields

• The gender pay gap

• Gender discrimination in the workforce

• The glass ceiling and the lack of women in leadership roles

• Issues of climate change and communities of color

• Police reform and police brutality

• Food Justice and food deserts in communities of color

• Issues in mental health and communities of color

• Black men and the Prison-industrial Complex

There are many more issues within the topic of reducing gender or racial inequality in the US that you can write about. The point is to have a focused topic by selecting an issues within the topic. As you move on to write research papers in higher education will not that the paper topics you write about will need to be narrowed. To do this you should choose issues within a given topic, rather than a general topic. For your paper you will focus on a specific issue within reducing gender or racial inequality in the US.

Your task is to complete field research in the form of a 5-6 question survey that you will distribute to at least 5 people (preferably of various ages, genders, and ethnicity). An example of a closed form question is one that leads to a yes/no answer or a limited amount of responses, such as a multiple-choice question. For example, on a scale of 1-10 how likely are you…For example, Are you aware of X, yes or no?
