Imagine that you are the Chief Financial Officer of Upcountry School District #1. Your district has experienced revenue shortfalls because of decreases in state or federal funding and also due to an unanticipated need in your district. You must deliver a press release to notify your district’s stakeholders of the issues now being faced and also of your planned strategies to resolve these issues.

Write, from the perspective of the district’s Chief Financial Officer, a 500- to 700-word press release that informs your stakeholders of:

· Context or hypothetical situation for budget cuts

· Reasons for and amount of the funding decreases

· Reasons for an amount of funding necessary for the unanticipated need

Include the following in your press release:

· A brief analysis of the usual funding sources, and amounts from each:

· Taxation

· Tax assessments

· Collection and other alternatives

· A brief analysis of the underlying foundation of the district’s funding structure

· An explanation of how the funding structure addresses:

· Student achievement

· Student needs

· Educational needs

· District’s Strategic Plan

· Compliance with legal and regulatory mandates

· A proposed solution to the funding shortfall and the anticipated effects on the district and schools, along with ethical reasons for making these decisions

· A response (as the C.F.O. of Upcountry School District #1) to a direct quote from the superintendent regarding the situation that supports this statement and demonstrates the unity of leadership
