Imagine you are the new administrator of the health information management department at Mercy Vale Medical Center. This particular institution has
struggled as of late. It has patient safety issues, regulatory violations, and, to make matters worse, financial struggles as well. These problems include the
following:
Patient safety issues abound. More patient falls have been reported in the past six months than at any other point in Mercy Vale’s history. There has
also been increased incidence of infection, causing the hospital a great deal of scrutiny.
Record-keeping issues have caused various regulatory violations to be levied against the hospital. Specifically, discharge paperwork is not being
completed correctly, with some not being properly signed. The hospital is also under fire from The Joint Commission (TJC) for privacy violations. TJC
believes that the busy clinical areas in Mercy Vale are not properly monitored, making patient information potentially visible.
Revenue management problems have also arisen as a result of poor coding procedures. This has affected key financial aspects of the hospital, such as
reimbursement. Many claims are being denied across the institution because of these issues.

Your first task as the new administrator is to develop new procedures for your employees that seek to address these issues. These procedures must detail how
employees should approach the analysis of issues presently affecting Mercy Vale and outline more effective daily operations to better align with regulations.
Then, in Prompt B, you will design training materials for effectively teaching these new procedures to employees and propose leadership strategies that would
ease the implementation of new procedures.
Before you design training materials for improving your employees’ performance, you must first develop a new set of standards and procedures to address
problems at Mercy Vale. This will include policies and procedures regarding using data analytics, ensuring compliance, and applying leadership strategies to

I. Develop new procedures for the health information management team for both conducting and reporting data analyses. In your procedures, be sure to
