A charter school, serving mainly low-income, minority students, worked to improve math, reading and science scores for its students, conducted the randomized controlled trial, to determine the level of scores in math, reading, and science from its students. The school provides after-school tutoring and Saturday classes to equalize the math, reading and science education of its students. The school spends $20,000 per student each year compared to the average of $16,000 per student in similar schools.

A limitation of this study is that it was conducted in one school as a pilot program. Replication of these findings in a second study, conducted in another setting, would be desirable to confirm that the intervention is effective in various settings where it might normally be implemented.

You are asked to analyze the data and determine if the scores between math, reading and science are consistent with the objective of the program and serve the student’s needs. Using PSPP and the “hsb2.Sav” database, analyze the data using descriptive output (the database is found in course documents). Using PSPP, construct a histogram for each of the scores to determine the frequency and distribution of each score. Also using PSPP, calculate the mean or median and a spread of the scores. Whether you use the mean or median is your decision and should be justified in the report.

Provide an 1) introduction, a 2) literature review (with at least two contemporary research articles related to the type of program being studied here), 3) process for data analysis (Data and Methods), 4) results or findings (show your histograms and build a table to provide the central score and spread you are using) and 5) Recommendations. Discuss your findings and reach a conclusion if the study should be continued, conduct a second study or discontinue the use of funds for this program. Make the sure paper (each section) is clear, concise, and detailed–assume your reader has minimal knowledge about the program, how the analysis was done, etc.

Included in the process for evaluation, you MUST indicate which of the three logic models from Hansen, Alkin, and Wallace (2013) would best work to evaluate this program and why. DO not forget to provide a description of the model (what does it include)

NOTE

Your paper should be about three to five pages including the histograms (sized appropriately-should not take about more than one-third page each) and data table. Use APA to cite and reference your sources properly.
