Questions for chapter 1:
State the three categories of settings in which science learning might occur as developed in the National Research Council report Learning Science in Informal Environments: People, Places, and Pursuits. Following each of the categories, write down, in italics, an example that YOU have experienced and explain why it exemplifies the category.
List the 5 basic characteristics that are believed to encourage learning.
Which 2 of the 5 basic characteristics listed above does Wolf Quest best exhibit? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
Which 2 of the 5 basic characteristics listed above does The Science Café best exhibit? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
From the section entitled, A Systematic Approach to Learning write three specific “take-aways” from this section that you found interesting and/or important and explain why you found it interesting and/or important.

Questions for chapter 2 and the preface:
Answer the following questions based on the Preface of the book.
What is the author’s motivation for writing this book?
What purpose does the author hope this book will serve?
How is this book broken up?
Summarize what you found interesting that helps focus/motivate you in using this book as a basis for your learning in this class.
From the section entitled, Science as a Social and Cultural Enterprise, write three specific “take-aways” from this section that you found interesting and/or important. For each take-away, explain why you found that particular take-away interesting and how it can inform your work in this class.
State each of the Strands in the sections and put together a “check-off cheat sheet” for each of the Strands. Do NOT just use the summary the text provides. Read the written text of each and incorporate what you read in those paragraphs.
For EACH of the five strands, explain how each of the strands is applied to the learning that takes place in the citizen-science project “Project Feeder Watch”. Use the summary cheat sheet you provided and support your answer with evidence from the text.
For Virtual Fieldwork #5, you will interview a director or facilitators of science learning environments. From the section, as well as the “Things to Try” section in your reading, compile ten possible questions you would ask someone working in the field.
