The clinical practice environment requires an understanding of evidence-based solutions to common problems that impact patient care. This process requires nurses to be mindful of their responsibility to treat patients with the best possible resources in place and to identify areas where prior evidence may improve quality of care in different ways. Learning about strategies to improve the practice setting, such as care at the bedside and patient rounds, are important tools in promoting a healthier environment in which to support patient wellbeing (Boswell & Cannon, 2014). These tools are particularly important because they impact how nurses respond to change and how it influences direct patient care. It is necessary to develop a strategy that encompasses the values of the nursing profession and in supporting a learning environment that engages nurses in new forms of knowledge and resource allocation to make a difference in the lives of their patients.

From an ethical perspective, I have learned that there are many critical factors that impact the practice environment and require nurses to be mindful of their actions regarding patient care. In my experience in the mental health profession, I have learned that confidentiality and privacy regarding patient mental health status is critical in making ethically responsible decisions on behalf of my patients. I have also learned that I must communicate with my patients in the appropriate manner and treat them with respect at all times to ensure that their wellbeing is not compromise. As a result, evidence must support the demand for improvements in quality of care and in areas where patient needs must be met in a timely manner to protect them from unnecessary risk or harm. This strategy is instrumental in enabling nurses to be mindful of the needs of their patients and in supporting a dynamic where patient care is critical to the success of the practice setting without contributing to delays or limitations that could compromise health and wellbeing.
