How many apps have you ever used? Have you ever thought to create a mobile app? It is never too late to learn something new.

No matter the app is for Android or iOS, creating a mobile app follows pretty much the same procedures. There are millions of webpages talking about creating mobile apps. Google it! The most important thing for a mobile app is the idea of the app, or what the app will do. It is the starting point for all of the apps. 1. Define your goals

2. Start sketching out your mobile app

3. Conduct research

4. Create a wireframe and storyboard for your mobile app

5. Define the backend of your mobile app

6. Test your mobile app prototype

7. Build the backend of your mobile app

8. Design the app “skins”

9. Test your mobile app again (yes, again, again, and again)

10. Revise and continue to build

11. Refine each detail

12. Release your mobile app.

For this week’s discussion, let’s think about an idea and follow steps 1 to 4 to sketch out the functions of your app. If you think you have a great idea, you may partner with or hire a software engineer to take care of steps 5 to 12.

Requirements

1. What is the idea? What is this app for? You may browse https://dribbble.com/ (Links to an external site.) to explore your idea further.

2. Sketch out 2 or three screens of the ideas for your app, e.g., the starting page and the outcome pages.

3. Browse https://dribbble.com/ (Links to an external site.) to research if there are similar ideas or if there are any inspiring ideas.

4. Sketch out several wireframes You can sketch it on a piece of paper, then take a picture of it. Or, you can use Power Point to draw the links on a slide, then save the slide as a JPEG file.

5. Write a storyboard for your app. This step is also called defining the User Experience (UX). “The idea is to build a roadmap that will help you understand the connection between each screen and how the user can navigate through your app.”

What to submit

1. A write up (no more than 400 words) including your idea, research findings, and storyboard.

2. A wireframe sketch. Upload the jpeg file with your write up.
