Discuss the function of a computer-assisted coding software application. In basic terms, how does it affect the codes within a record?

What is the role of the medical coder in this application? Does the use of this application increase coder productivity? Reduce coding errors? Will this application have any effect on the future role of coders?

How does medical documentation affect medical codes? Can the software discern between documented patient history versus what is current during a particular encounter? How would this affect your codes and in turn reimbursement?
