A recent challenge to the overall goal of providing excellent care arose when there were more patients than staff on hand. I often find it difficult to delegate to others because I am constantly worried about the overall goal being accomplished. When assigning tasks, I tend to under delegate and take on the more difficult duties myself. Although the central goal is in my view, I often find that my process of assigning jobs becomes overwhelming. In order to prevent such problems, I can practice trust and dependability when working with my team. I can enforce accountability by taking note of tasks assigned and requesting progress reports. In addition, I can study my crew members and discover the areas in which they are most compatible. Such careful delegation builds a level of trust since I will have full confidence in my team’s ability to complete assignments.
