PROCEDURE:
Choose a Fashion/Retail company you might like to work for, and “prepare” for a job interview as an intern.
A. Company Profile:
Choose a public company as this data can be easily found online in Hoover’s Online, Business.com and Corporate Information. RESEARCH THE COMPLETE HISTORY AND HIGHLIGHT THE MOST SIGNIFICANT FACTS.
B. Current Marketing Positioning:
Use the Internet to research current happenings in this company’s business practices. There are several resources to choose from, e.g., FM108 Database, Business of Fashion, and WWD Online and study every suitable menu heading for articles that provide usable, factual business data. (Be careful to make sure each site is reputable, and that the information is accurate). Do not use data older than the last 6-12 months.
Research a maximum of five (5) and a minimum of three (3) ARTICLES.
HIGHLIGHT the most important facts in the article that will give you a better understanding of the business practices of the company you are researching. Prepare a short paragraph about each news item and include all in your References at the end of the submission.
C. Company Summary:
1. Analyze your research and write a one-page summary of your impression of this company based upon the current retail climate. Be sure to use citations as needed.
2. In one paragraph describe the internship you hope to get.
3. Prepare a resume in WIX listing your skills and experience for the position you would like to secure and write a cover letter (in Word) to accompany it.
D. Presentation
1. All PAPERS MUST BE TYPED IN THE APPROPRIATE FONT 10 or 12pt, double spaced (reference class notes from Week 4 for more details).
2. You must have a cover page with your name, name of the company you are researching and your class and section number.
3. You must have a table of contents, APA references, and parenthetical citations were applicable.
4. The report must be in the following order: company history, synopsis of articles, company summary, job description, cover letter and resume (as a link to your WIX portfolio).
5. Submit a one-page Reflection about this experience in the Dropbox.
