Team Instructions: Refer to Chapter 25 of your Let’s Code It! text, along with your CPT Professional Edition codebook, and review the information on the CPT Surgery section and the Learning Outcomes specific to correctly coding and reporting outpatient surgical services on specific body systems:

Example: Integumentary System:

There are specific CPT guidelines for coding and reporting depth and surface area for reporting “debridement” of wounds.

For this Team Discussion, you will work in teams of 8-10 students assigned by your professor.

Each team will have its own Team Collaboration Space (Discussion 1) and will be assigned one of the CPT Surgical Section body system subsections and its guidelines for coding and reporting.

Team 1: Musculoskeletal System;

Team 2: Respiratory System;

Team 3: Cardiovascular System;

Team 4: Nervous System

As a team, you will decide what guideline from your assigned Surgical Section each member will discuss in their initial post of at least 100 words by Sunday night. Make sure your initial post fully discusses and applies the surgical section guideline(s), along with its interpretation. You must include an example procedure description and code clearly demonstrating the application of the guideline(s) that you have chosen. In addition to your initial post, you will make 50 -word response posts to at least two classmates by Tuesday night. Classmate responses should show relationships between the guidelines and include agreement or disagreement with the example code provided based on the given scenario and application of the guideline.

Due to the structure of team DBs, you can only view your team’s posts on Discussion Board 1. Therefore, for the other teams to see your work, each team should post a summary of the team’s discussion to the Team Summaries and Reflections (Discussion 2) area.

The discussion will conclude by each student providing their own short summary reflection on the team process experienced during the Team Discussion. Post your summary reflection in the Team Summaries and Reflections (Discussion 2) area. See Discussion Board 2 for more information.

Make your initial post by Sunday midnight on assigned CPT Surgical Body System-Specific Guidelines. Your main post to the discussion should contain at least 100 words, with no more than 10% quoting, and cite any sources used on a reference list following APA format.
Make 2 classmate response posts by Tuesday. Each reply post should contain at least 50 words—citing references using APA format as needed.
