“Big data reflects the variety of new data sources, formats, and structures,including digital traces being left on the web and other digital repositories for subsequent analysis”( EMC Educational Services and EMC Educational Services, 2015). One a daily basis humans services organizations are intaking knew information about clients, their needs, available resources, and much more. Using the data analytic life cycle helps them with the organization and use of this information.

For Riverbend City, the use of Big Data and the data analytic cycle could help them become more organized with the information that they gather from the teens and their families. The information can also show their financial supporters, what they are doing with the funding and how well the programs that they have are working. Data being collected such as pre- and post family conflict scores and funding allocations for the Riverbend Teen Program, could be consider predictive. The family conflict scores, shows the history of what teens scored before the treatment versus what they scored after the treatment. From this information the organization can focus on what needs to be done to better assist the teens and there families or what can stay the same for future participants. Funding falls in this category as well, because they can look at past amounts needed and how well the program was doing versus what type of funding will be need for the future of the program.

Human service organization use data analytics to decipher much of the information they receive regarding stakeholders, program needs and outcomes, budget and expenses, etc. Before taking this class, I never thought of this process as data analytics. Each organization, in one shape or another, uses analysis of some kind to determine the well being of their department, or program. Although now the data analytic life cycle comes to mind, much of the process is already followed by companies without realizing. Companies are intaking data, analyzing it and using it to better their specific programs. Whether there is one person or a team of professionals looking at the data to better implement or strengthen new policies that are beneficial to the company.

Riverbend City Community Action Center (RCAC) collected and interpreted data that determined the legal support they give teens decreases the level of family conflict. Going back to the data, the program could try to collect data on why this is the case. Although we can perform statistical analysis, I do believe content analysis would be better suited to gage which direction the program should go in further decreasing family conflict. Is this because legal fees put a strain on family finances and this is welcomed help? There may also be outside factors, separate from legal issues that contributes to family conflict. I do think surveys and group sessions could prove to be useful in collecting data.
