Part One: Hypotheses (25 points) – About three-quarters of a page to a page (double-spaced)
Read this article from WIRED. Next reflect on this article and how it relates to generalizability and causal validity. Next critically think about what this means for the field of criminology and criminal justice. How could this impact various criminal justice related policies? Explain. Identify and discuss at least two course links from the chapters we have covered so far.
Part Two: Identifying Independent and Dependent Variables (14 points) – Listing
· The elderly are less likely than the young to experience a violent victimization.
· Individuals with low self-control will be more likely to do drugs than those with high self-control.
· Men with low levels of serotonin will be more aggressive than men with high levels of serotonin.
· States without the death penalty have fewer homicides than those with the death penalty.
· Students with more delinquent friends are more likely to be afraid of in-school victimization than students without delinquent friends.
· Women with high levels of parental attachment are less likely to be delinquent than women with low levels of parental attachment.
· Individuals with prior criminal records will be more likely to recidivate than those without prior criminal records.
Part Three: Conceptualization and Operationalization (24 points) – Listing for conceptualization part and one sentence for each concept for each indicator
For each of these concepts, first reflect on what they mean and jot down several words/phrases/definitions/ideas that come to mind for each concept (i.e., conceptualization). Next, please come up with FOUR indicators or ways to measure each concept (i.e., operationalization). Remember to think of more than just survey questions.
