The evaluation design I’m going to use is survey research
The organization I will be choosing is a Non-Profit organization called the Columbus County Dream Center which is located in my community. Columbus County DREAM Center, Inc. has promoted the empowerment of youth, their families, and their communities since 1991. Originally begun as the Alcohol and Drug Prevention Coalition (ADPC), DREAM Center expanded its services to address many of the underlying causes of substance abuse: poor health, lack of education, unemployment, poverty, and numerous other conditions that promote substance abuse. The Dream Center offers four different programs which include HIV/ITTS, Safe Haven After School Tutoring Program, Powerful Parenting Program and Network For Hope Columbus County.
The program I will be choosing is the powerful parenting program. Serving parents with children between the ages of 6-11. The program utilizes the Strengthening Families Program curriculum. Parents will obtain knowledge in setting boundaries, helping to enhance self-esteem for themselves and their families and establishing effective communication with their children and each other. The problem this organization faces with this program is some people don’t want to come because they think it makes them a bad parent or makes them looks bad .
The parenting program will benefit from the research and evaluation because you will be able to dig deeper in the many questions outsiders as well as parents may have. You will also be able to ask people what could they change up or say to make you want to join the parenting program . I would even ask do they if the incentives was increased that they give you for coming to the class weekly would make a difference . Asking parents and kids after the program is over how it has helped them could be data use to draw others in or to use for the future.
