General Description:
For this assignment, students will apply a theory discussed in class to a media, cultural, or other artifact of their choice within the parameters of the assignment guidelines. Papers will be between 4-5 pages in length and will conform to the most current MLA Style Guide. When assigned, papers will be due on Sunday at midnight. Students are encouraged to set up a meeting with an instructor or a teaching assistant to get feedback on paper outlines, etc. Late Papers will not be accepted (except in the case of a university-sanctioned absence).
Writing Guidelines
Each essay is to be 4-5 double-spaced, typewritten pages in length. Note that a typewritten page equals about 250 words, so each essay should be between 1000-1250 words.
Each essay will require at least two academic references, properly cited and incorporated, in addition to the textbook.
Each essay should include a title that gives a specific indication of the paper’s direction, then double-space and begin the essay.
Each essay should be typed in 12 point font size and utilize a standard font appropriate for academic use.
Since the essays are brief, they should be sharply focused. Your argument should be clearly stated and previewed in the first, introductory paragraph of the essay. The body of the paper should present supporting evidence in defense of your argument. Very often it takes at least one rough draft to discover what it is you have to say. Be prepared to rewrite until you can clearly state your position at the beginning of the essay and are able to substantiate that position clearly and logically in the main body of the paper.
Each essay is expected to be mechanically correct.Observe proper spelling, punctuation, and other rules of modern English usage. All papers must conform to the most current MLA Style Guide.
Only Canvas assignment submissions will be accepted; they must be submitted by midnight on the due date.
Papers may be turned in at any time prior to the due date, but they must be submitted no later than the due date.
Paper outlines may be submitted (in hard copy) no less than two weeks before the paper is due for review by the instructor/teaching assistants
Topics (all papers must address ONE of the topics below)
