The final project is a research project. The objectives of this project are to –
(1) Evaluate strategic sourcing strategy and challenges of a company or an industry in the
context of the unfolding pandemics.
(2) Enhance your ability to evaluate the supply chain operations of a company, or an industry
sector (or key companies in the industry) or conduct a thorough and in-depth analysis of a
specific conceptual issue(s) of supply chain and/or operations management.
(3) Demonstrate your ability to write professional analytical report and consulting-oriented
research report.
(4) Integrate and apply the technical knowledge of supply chain and operations management
to evaluate, assess a given system and provide recommendation of improvement.
COVID-19 and supply chain management is on everyone’s mind. The pandemic challenges the
basic assumptions of global outsourcing, inventory strategy, technology adoption, the role of
state and federal government and political systems. You are learning more about the profession
and taking these supply chain classes while this once a century event is taking place.
In this project, you will be working in teams to research and understand supply chain and
sourcing issues in a specific industry sector (e.g. personal protection equipment (PPE), medical
equipment, food/grocery, electronics, transportation, … ). You should work to gain a better
understanding of the dominant supply management practices and understand how the
sector/company is and will go through rapid changes.
You will use newspapers, business magazines, industry reports, technology reports, and to a
small extent social media to conduct your research.
We will set up an initial meeting to check up on your selected topic. Throughout the term, I will
be available to discuss your proposal and progress. We can set up zoom meetings for this. I will
inquire about your progress throughout the term.
In the syllabus, I have included a few articles that may help you start your research. I will also
add articles or information to Canvas if I think it might be useful.
