The Module M6 “Endocrine and Immune Systems” concludes with a written Essay, in which

§ Conduct an independent Literature Research to find 3-4 evidence-based publications /
research articles for each topic (= 6-8 in total) and use your acquired knowledge to
evaluate the scientific sources.

The sources used must be attached to the presentation in the form of a reference list on the
last page.

o Hormonal imbalances and their influence on mental health (e.g. mitochondrial
malfunction)
o Immune system related diseases and their influence on mental health (e.g. silent
inflammation)
o Stress and its influence on the endocrine and immune systems
§ Create two distinguished parts, each concerning with one of your topics.
§ Summarize methods and results of each article.
§ Analyse and evaluate each article’s content.
§ Compare and contrast consistencies, contradictions and opposing content of the research
articles on a methodological as well as a content-related level.
§ Explain how contradictions and opposing contents occur in your topics of choice.
§ Integrate the used literature into a bigger picture describing the current state of research.
§ Provide the pathways forward by pointing out prospective research questions.
§ Discuss your findings and draw a conclusion.
