The first artifact that I have chosen to put in my portfolio is my acceptance letter to Trent. I chose this because receiving this letter allowed me to start planning my next four years. Upon deciding to attend Trent University I started to see my future. Receiving this letter was a moment where going away to school stopped seeming so distant in the future. This letter represents the moment that I became a Trent University nursing student, which is why I felt it was important in my journey in becoming a nurse and why I chose to include it in mu portfolio

The next artifact that I have chosen to be represented in my portfolio is my watch. This represents a very important piece of my nursing uniform. When putting on my scrubs, shoes and watch I feel like a nurse. I change from being a university student to being a nursing student. The fact that I’ve never before worn a watch adds to the significance of putting it on as a nurse.
The next artifact I have chosen to include is my CPR C certification. I chose to include this because it represents that I am qualified to respond in emergency situations with first aid and CPR. This is an important part in the initial stages of becoming a nurse.

This is my N95 Mask-Fit Testing card. This is a significant part of my nursing journey because it is a stepping stone which all nurses have to go through. It is important in protecting yourself and others in clinical practice by stopping the spread of airborne diseases. The fact that it is a standard of all nurses to have this is exciting because it represents the process of me becoming a nurse.

My final artifact is the proof of my flu shot vaccination. This is significant because all nurses need to be vaccinated against influenza. As it was one of the last of my non-academic requirements for my clinical placements to be completed it felt like overcoming a milestone. I had almost finished everything that I needed to do before being allowed to enter the clinical practice as a learning nursing student. It shows that I am one step closer to being in clinical practice.
